Question with 15 notes
tobi2x4 asked: What inspired you to draft the Post-apocalyptic version of Legend of Zelda? (As a side note, I would like to say that I am absolutely blown away by the art. Amazing work!)
I won’t pretend I’m the first person to come up with this idea; It’s definitely been rolling around out there for a while now. But for me, it was when someone offhandedly mentioned Zelda some time in the not so distant future, a sort of dystopian version of Hyrule. What immediately sprang to mind was the image of a rather run-down Link, clad in dull green poncho and muddied clothing, grasping a corroded, sealed Master Sword. I had to draw it.

That’s the very first version, drawn over a year and a half ago, quite a while before this project was handed to me. Of course, the deliverables have changed a bit, and some things just can’t be included (Flat out drawing the Master Sword wouldn’t really be redesigning it, and I don’t quite trust myself to recreate an iconic weapon like that), but it has mostly remained the same.
I should add that, concerning the direction of this project, I definitely wanted to avoid the usual “Everything is Brown, Everything is Gritty” look a lot of Fallout-alikes tend to give their settings. I tried to keep the colours vibrant, though not oversaturated, for the characters and creatures in particular. It would hardly be Zelda if the world wasn’t the brilliant, expansive and breathtaking place to explore that it is in most of the games.
