darkblonde01 asked: So what's the story behind "Echoes of the Future"? How is the Triforce involved? I see it's already on riot gear. Did the good guys get ahold of it for awhile and make a police force to protect it?
As with the previous games, the Triforce is the ultimate MacGuffin. Ganondorf is after it, and so far he’s ripped most of Hyrule apart in his search. The reason why it’s on the riot gear is the same as everything else that has the Triforce on it: It’s the de-facto symbol of the world of Hyrule, it’s very genesis. Much like how it appears on the Hylian Shield. If I were to guess where it is now in this modern version, it’d probably be in fragments and scattered to the winds, hidden by the newest incarnation of the Sheikah. I’d imagine them similar to a shadowy behind-the-scenes organization, like a secret service.
On the note on Link, and his gear:
I wanted Link’s appearance and equipment to be somewhat ramshackle, since he’d probably only be able to scrounge up parts from the various wrecks and destroyed buildings he’d encounter on his journey. His sword is the best example: most of the designs are basically something sharped tied to a stick. In the case of the shield, I felt that the recognizable shape of the riot shield would sell the idea that this isn’t a fantasy world any longer. It was probably scavenged from a wrecked police station. It’s broken, battered, but still functional.
I honestly didn’t give the storyline very much thought, since at the end of the day it was a design project and not a creative writing exercise, but I tried to keep the story of the Legend in spirit, and it has definitely influenced the work.
