jcoolmckickass asked: your idea seems very thought out, have you thought about how the diffrent races look like? would they still be more or less separated into their own areas or have they banded together? and it seems like magic is slowly dissapearing in the zelda games, would it even be there anymore in this concept?
I’ve definitely given the races some thought, though mostly to how they’ve reacted to the damage Ganondorf has caused. There’s a lot of room to explore there, and admittedly I haven’t really settled on any ideas at the moment. Regarding magic: I definitely feel magic would still be around in this Modern Day Hyrule, though as with the majority of the Zelda Games, it’d be considerably limited, and mostly confined to a variety of magical artifacts. Think Link to the Past’s selection of rods and staves. Though given how far it is in the future, their power has probably waned.
As an aside on magic: I’ve toyed with the idea that the Master Sword has undergone a lot of scrutiny with the rise of the population and the advent of mass media. On the decision of the hypothetical Hylian council, it’d be sealed away in a science lab deep in where the lost woods used to be. Picture Link cutting through swathes of overgrowth to pierce the facility, finally stumbling upon the legendary sword of evil’s bane… only to find it covered in all manner of technology, wires and tubes connecting it to a much larger machine, it’s no longer glowing blade firmly embedded in a device meant to drain it’s power.
In general, though, the majority of Modern Hyrule’s citizens probably don’t believe magic exists.
