wild-jinx asked: I have a question about how you color, how do you choose your colors to use for shading or darks and lights?
I’ll be honest. I’m a complete dunce when it comes to colour. My understanding of colour theory is pretty basic; warm, cool, the different colour schemes and so on. When I get down to it it’s really a lot about feeling. That said, I usually have a general idea of what I want. If the scene is supposed to be warm or welcoming, I tend to hue the shadows to the warm spectrum. Yellow becomes orange, orange approaches red, sometimes with an increase in saturation. If the base colour I’m shading is blue or green, I make it neutral instead, which just means more towards gray. Of course there’s nothing stopping you from shading them in purple or lime instead, as long as the values are correct. I find it more interesting than just adding black or ‘burning’ the colours for depth. Hope that answers your question!
